Compared to previous years, the 2004 General Assembly has seen a record number of attendants coming from 36 different nations.
A wide range of social happenings was offered to all delegates through dinners and receptions hosted by the PPC Arade, the city of Portimao, the Qatar Marine Sports Federation and the Russian Motorboat Federation.
From Monday through Friday, sixteen different Commissions and Committees did meet and on Saturday the usual Open Forum took place to prepare the smooth running of the General Assembly meeting of the Sunday.
The annual calendar meeting has also become an essential part of the meetings since it tempts to avoid clashes on the international calendar and allows the drivers to schedule their racing season well in advance.
At the Council meeting of Saturday, all Presidents of the different Commissions reported on the conclusions taken at their meetings and strategic matters as prepared and discussed by the Executive Committee were brought forward to the Board Members. On Sunday, the General Assembly – the supreme body of the UIM – did vote on some 170 rule changes for its’ five rulebooks on the different disciplines. Furthermore all Presidents and Members of the different Commissions were (re-) elected and we now look forward to constructive cooperation with the new delegates and continued partnership with the re-elected delegates. The UIM did conclude a successful week of meetings with a farewell cocktail and all delegates already blocked their agendas for the 2005 and 2006 General Assembly meetings which are scheduled respectively October 17-23, 2005 in Doha, Qatar at the Ritz- Carlton Hotel and October 16-22, 2006 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at the Nikko Hotel.
In the meantime, we look forward to enjoy another exciting racing season.
